Cambridge English: Young Learners is a series of fun, motivating English language tests, aimed at children in primary and lower-secondary education.
A Cambridge English: Young Learners award is a great way to:
- celebrate children’s achievement
- build their confidence
- reward their individual ability.
There is no pass or fail. All children receive an award which shows how many shields they have received. The maximum score is five shields for each part of the test.
Cambridge English: Young Learners is now being introduced on computer, laptop and supported tablets, giving you more choice in how learners take the tests. Talk to your centre to find out more.
The Cambridge English: Young Learners tests
There are three activity-based tests – Starters, Movers and Flyers – giving learners a clear path to improve in English.
All the tests include activities involving drawing, colouring or telling stories – ideal for motivating and inspiring children to learn.
Cambridge English: Starters
This test is for children who are just starting to learn English. Preparing for the test helps children learn basic sentences in English, build basic English vocabulary, and become familiar with English letters and numbers.
Cambridge English: Movers
This builds on children’s language skills. Preparing for the test helps children understand basic phrases and instructions in English, express simple sentences in English, and identify many everyday objects.
Cambridge English: Flyers
Preparing for the test helps learners understand simple questions and instructions, express simple opinions or needs, and complete forms or provide personal information in English.
Young Learners tests can be used as a path to our higher exams such as Cambridge English: Key for Schools or Cambridge English: Preliminary for Schools.
Cambridge English Placement Test for Young Learners
The Cambridge English Placement Test for Young Learners is a fast and affordable way to place students on the right courses.
